Mackie Onyx 1620i Firewire Production Mixer. #Mackie onyx 1620i driver windows 8 upgradeThe soundcraft also saves some desk space in an already small mixing space. Pro Tools M-Powered 8 (Requires driver upgrade download) Logic SONAR Cubase Ableton Live. They also work great as live mixers, but there are no built in effects which is why I now use the MTK 12 for small live shows where the vocalists want a little reverb. #Mackie onyx 1620i driver windows 8 macI will probably use them as long as I have a Mac that supports FireWire, or the mutant $100 worth of dongles that allows a thunderbolt 3 Mac to connect to them. Now that USB interfaces and the chipsets used in audio devices are more reliable, I’m looking at an MTK 22 to possibly replace the 1640i, or maybe that 16 channel zoom. I need to reboot the 1220i a few times a year, otherwise it stays on. The kmix has a stuck rotary out of the box that I’m too lazy/busy to fix. I need to reboot the soundcraft once a week. Stability wise, in 2019, they work pretty well. I still use the 1640i for projects or large improv recording sessions. These standalone kits seem to now be unobtanium. It is bulky though, and I challenge you to find the dang rotopod or rack mount kit anywhere on the Internet. We also have a 1640i, which we unboxed and recorded the start of an album over a long weekend. It worked perfectly, and continues to serve daily duties in my home studio. My band has a 1220i, which we unboxed and then recorded an album that weekend. So, I can confirm it definitely works.Back when USB audio interfaces were buggy, FireWire was stable if you were willing to pay for the infrastructure around it. So, I also tried the mixer in the newer FFADO version with the PRO 40, and that works also, but (for me) the (FFADO) mixer panel for the Pro40 is very complicated to understand and use. But, I tried that as well, with a ppa I found somewhere (I removed it again and cannot find the PPA any more). If you per sé want the mixer panel of FFADO to load you need to upgrade FFADO to version 2.4 (but in practice it is not really needed to mix from the soundcard itself). So, not being able to load the mixer panel in FFADO is not a problem, because it simply works with Jack (128 samples, buffer 3 2.7 ms latency) and with Ardour it is recognized there and all the channels are there and selectable/usable. But, when you open FFADO for the first time, it is recognized, but the mixer panel won’t load (that may look disturbing, but you can simply quit/close the window and the device still/just works). It works under Ubuntu Studio 18.04 (I run it with KXStudio on top). Yes, I actively have/use one (a Focusrite Saffire Pro40). Sloppy driver work, hacking other people’s products instead of creating new ones - gah. I’ve used Mackies for a long time, and I’m disappointed with the way they’ve been doing things of late. #Mackie onyx 1620i driver windows 8 seriesIf FFADO says the i series is already supported, then there’s no reason not to have the latest toys.īased on what I said above, when I get another mixer, it’s not going to be Mackie. The 11640 is a nice small format mixer that won’t break the bank, if you’re looking for something to sit on your desk or even go on the road with you. If you really want an Onyx and really want to use Linux, and you want it now, go with an original Onyx series with firewire. This was rather iffy in practice, and Mackie took the lazy route and decided to stop supporting dual-mixer configurations in Vista and presumably Win7 (by this time I stopped caring). The XP driver for the original series was supposed to support two mixers in parallel or series. I wasn’t impressed with Mackie’s crappy support under Windows, either. My understanding is that the “big improvement” is some hacks to let these mixers work with ProTools. I’m not impressed with what I’ve read about the i series. I use them both together on my Linux DAW with Ardour. The original Onyx series with firewire is supported. /rebates/&252fmackie-onyx-820i-driver-for-mac. ONYX 1620i with Windows 10 From my understanding, this Mackie unit will not support Windows 10. USB 2.0 connectivity for fast transfer speed and low latency. I have a 1640 and a 1620 - not the i series. This package contains the files needed for installing the Behringer X-USB Universal USB ASIOdriver.
